As you know, I started my Master’s in Project and Infrastructure Management this September 2024 intake. Alongside my studies, I am actively working on developing my professional career. Recently, I completed a course on LinkedIn Learning titled "Project Management Foundation." This course was incredibly helpful in laying the groundwork for my understanding of project management.
The course covered traditional project management methodologies, which follow a process comprising initiation, planning, execution, and closing—often referred to as the waterfall method. It also introduced the agile approach, which I found particularly interesting. Agile emphasizes delivering product features at regular intervals while prioritizing customer feedback and collaboration within experienced teams.
The agile process consists of five key steps:
- Envision: Define the project vision, initial goals, and objectives, which may evolve over time.
- Speculate: Prioritize the feature list based on technical and business considerations.
- Explore: Build and deliver the features.
- Adapt: Review the results and make necessary adjustments.
- Close: Document lessons learned.
Additionally, the course provided insights into various topics such as organizational culture, stakeholder engagement and analysis, project objectives, requirements, success criteria, assumptions, risks, project scope, scheduling, work breakdown structure, estimating, staff planning, risk management plans, communication plans, quality improvement plans, change management plans, procurement planning, critical path analysis, agile management, and team dynamics. I also gained a brief overview of the PMBOK 7th edition.
For anyone interested in studying project management, this course is an invaluable resource. After completion, you also receive a certification, which I will share as well!
