Today, I’m sharing some special pictures with you all. These photos are from one of my most cherished childhood trips to a place not many people know about – the Mini Taj Mahal near Shirdi. Yes, there is a replica of the Taj Mahal not far from the famous pilgrimage site!
The Bibi Ka Maqbara is located around 5 km from Aurangabad and was built by Aurangzeb's son, Prince Azam Shah, in 1678 in memory of his mother, Begum Rabia Durani. Although it’s a replica of the iconic Taj Mahal, this monument has its own beauty and charm.
I visited this with my grandparents, siblings, and cousins – a trip filled with laughter and memories. After our visit to Shirdi, we took a vehicle to the Mini Taj Mahal. The journey itself was quite the adventure! The roads back then were bumpy with many ups and downs, but that just added to the fun. Along the way, we stopped to eat fresh guavas and other local treats like amla from the roadside vendors. I can still remember the sweet taste of the guavas – so fresh and flavorful.
There were five of us kids, along with my grandparents, and the whole trip was filled with excitement. We traveled by train from Warangal to Shirdi, and after our darshan, we spent the days exploring nearby places. One of my favorite memories is from a late night around 12 AM, when all five of us sneaked out of our hotel to roam the streets and ended up sitting in a nearby garden, eating ice cream, sharing stories, and laughing until our bellies hurt.
That summer holiday was filled with unforgettable moments, and visiting the Bibi Ka Maqbara was the highlight of the trip. Though it’s a replica, the monument has its own unique beauty, and the architecture is simply stunning.
If you ever visit Shirdi, don’t miss this hidden gem! It’s a must-see, and I promise, you won’t be disappointed.
